First Group of 31 Chinese and Foreign Experts were Appointed as the Members of the Expert Committee
Beijing, August 26 (reporter SUN Hang）The International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People's Court was officially established today in accordance with the "Opinion Concerning the Establishment of the Belt and Road International Commercial Dispute Resolution Mechanism and Institutions" issued by the General Office of the Communist Party Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council of the People's Republic of China. Thirty-one Chinese and foreign experts were appointed as the First Group of members of the Expert Committee. Chief Justice ZHOU Qiang, the President of the Supreme People's Court, conferred the Appointment Letters to representatives of the Expert Committee members.
The establishment of the International Commercial Expert Committee is aiming to enhance international exchange and cooperation, ensure operation and promote adjudication of the International Commercial Court, and support parties to resolve international commercial disputes through arbitration, mediation, litigation and other diversified commercial dispute settlement methods. The first group of expert members come from different countries and regions with different legal systems, including leaders of important international organizations, legal experts, eminent scholars, experienced judges, outstanding lawyers, etc. The makeup of the Committee reveals a broad representation in respect of both geographic region and professional field.
After the establishment of the International Commercial Expert Committee, members could be entrusted by the International Commercial Court to mediate international commercial disputes based on parties autonomy and provide advisory opinions to people's courts on specialized legal issues in the trial of international commercial disputes. Members could also advice on the revision of the rules of International Commercial Court, development plans, judicial interpretations and judicial policies of the Supreme People's Court.
The First and Second International Commercial Court of the Supreme People's Court were established on June 29 in Shenzhen and Xi'an respectively. The biographies and photos of the first group of 31 expert members will be published in both Chinese and English on the website of the International Commercial Court of the Supreme People's Court (http://cicc.court.gov.cn/).
