Introduction to the Supreme People’s Court ASEAN Legal Research Base
From: The Supreme People's Court ASEAN Legal Research Base Updated: 2019-11-26The Supreme People's Court ASEAN Legal Research Base was established in May 2014 pursuant to the Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement signed by the 4th Civil Division of the Supreme People’s Court and the Southwest University of Political Science and Law. By taking as a vital underpinning China-ASEAN Legal Research Center of Southwest University of Political Science and Law and through collaboration with the legal and academic communities from China and ASEAN countries, the China-ASEAN Legal Research Base is committed to building a new international cooperation platform for proof of law service, centered on the building of national legal database along the “Belt and Road” and featured by ASEAN legal research and proof of law service, which will provide high-quality legal service for the legal and academic organizations and parties involved in the construction of the “Belt and Road”.
The China-ASEAN Legal Research Center has established a number of legal exchange and cooperation mechanisms by signing cooperation agreements with ASEAN Law Association, Cambodian Ministry of Justice, Laos Ministry of Justice, Thailand Thammasat University, Malaysian National University and other ASEAN legal and academic organizations, and jointly establishing China-Thailand Legal Advisory Center, China-Malaysia Legal Counseling Center, and other cooperation centers; and has achieved good social effects by publishing China-ASEAN Law Reviews and a series of legal research books on countries along the “Belt and Road”, and assisting in the cases concerning the application of law and protection of the rights and interests of Chinese citizens abroad.
The Supreme People’s Court ASEAN Legal Research Base provides strong support for legal cooperation and exchange among, and legal database and proof of law service of, ASEAN countries and countries along the “Belt and Road” by an administrative team composed of staff proficient in Thai, Lao, Vietnamese, Burmese or Cambodian language and a team of legal and academic experts from China, ASEAN countries, and countries along the “Belt and Road”.
The Supreme People’s Court ASEAN Legal Research Base, by integration of resources and cooperation with Tongfang Knowledge Network (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., is building Southwest University of Political Science and Law legal database and proof of law service platform of countries along the “Belt and Road” for the provision of legal data retrieval service and consulting service on application of law, targeting at government authorities, judicial institutions, colleges, universities, law firms, companies and individuals. The first phrase of Online Platform of Legal Database and Proof of Law of ASEAN Countries is expected to be completed in December 2020.
The Director of the Base is Professor Zhang Xiaojun, Dean of the School of International Law of Southwest University of Political Science and Law and Secretary General of China-ASEAN Legal Research Center.
