LLM (CUPL), LLM and PhD (UNSW), Professor of Law and PhD supervisor at the College of Law of China University of Political Science & Law (CUPL) and Director of the Centre for the Ascertainment of Foreign Law at CUPL. He was the Dean of the College of Law from Jan. 2011 to July 2018.


Professor Gao worked in adjudication of foreign-related cases in the Supreme People’s Court of the PRC from July 1990 to Apr. 2004; From April 2004 to Dec. 2006, he worked in the School of Law of the University of Canberra as lecturer and senior lecturer on continuing basis, as the Director of China Law Programs and the Acting Convenor of LLM & Master of Legal Studies of the School and member of the Examination Committee, the Education Committee and the International Committee of the Division of Business, Law and Information Science; He has been a Professor of Law and PhD supervisor at CUPL since Jan. 2007; He was a part-time Professor of Law at the Faculty of Law of University of Technology Sydney from July 2017 and June 2020.

 

Professor Gao is a member of the Legal Committee of the ICC Banking Commission, ICC DOCDEX Expert, consultant for the ICC Academy and Member of the Group of Experts in International Settlement of the ICC China Banking Commission; Vice-Chair of the ICC Global Commission on Commercial Law and Practice, the Executive Chairman of ICC China Commission for Commercial Law and Practice; a member of the Executive Committee of International Association of Legal Science, Deputy President of China Society of Comparative Law, President of Beijing Society of Banking Law, and an arbitrator for a number of arbitration institutions, including the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission and Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.


 Professor Gao is specialized in international trade and finance law. Four of his articles in English have been excerpted in textbooks on International Business Transactions and International Banking Law in the US and International Business Law in the UK. His monograph and articles have been cited in several cases in the US and Canada. He was the drafter of the Rules of the Supreme People’s Court concerning Several Issues in Adjudicating Letter of Credit Cases and expert consultant for the drafting of the Several Provisions of the Supreme People’s Court concerning Adjudicating Cases of Independent Guarantees in the PRC, and a member of the drafting group for the ICC Guide on Transport and the Incoterms® 2010 Rules and ICC INCOTERMS® 2020 FCA and CPT: Best practice for shipping containers through ports.
