Mr James Leslie Bain Allsop AC, is currently an independent arbitrator and mediator, as well as an International Judge of the Singapore International Commercial Court. He has previously served as the Chief Justice of the Federal Court of Australia, the President of the New South Wales Court of Appeal, and a Judge of the Federal Court of Australia. He has also served as a Barrister, Senior Counsel in New South Wales, and as Queen’s Counsel in Western Australia.

 

Mr. Allsop’s expertise covers all areas of commercial law, such as company law and business and partnership disputes, taxation, restrictive trade practices (anti-trust), intellectual property including patents, trademarks, copyright and industrial designs, contract and building and construction; with particular specialties in insurance and reinsurance, intellectual property, maritime law and insolvency. In addition, Mr Allsop’s experience extends to public and constitutional law. His arbitral experience includes appointments under the ACICA and HKIAC rules, ad hoc arbitration and empanelment with the LCIA, AIAC, SIAC, SCMA and the LMAA as a supporting member.

 

Mr. Allsop has over 35 years of teaching experience in Equity, Real Property, Bankruptcy, Admiralty, and Maritime Law at prestigious universities. He served as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law, an Honorary Bencher of Middle Temple, and a Member of the American Law Institute. He is also a Patron of the Australian Insurance Law Association and served on the Governing Board of the World Maritime University and the Board of the Australian Maritime College. Mr Allsop has published numerous essays, journal articles and book chapters on legal topics.
