Ambassador Gao Yanping, with a Ph.D. in law, has a long diplomatic career and rich experiences in diplomacy and international legal field. She served in various senior positions such as Consul-General and Ambassador to foreign countries, Deputy Director-General and Director-General at the Office of the Foreign Affairs Leading Group of the CPC Central Committee. She represented China on numerous major international conferences at the United Nations General Assembly, the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on the Strengthening of the Role of the Organization, the United Nations Compensation Commission, the United Nations Human Rights Council, the International Civil Aviation Organization, and the International Maritime Organization etc.. Ambassador Gao participated in the negotiation, formulation and revision of some important international conventions such as the World Trade Organization Agreements, the Statute of the International Criminal Court and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. She has also participated in the negotiation and conclusion of bilateral treaties on a number of subjects, including judicial assistance and extradition, etc.. She has profound knowledge of and expertise in laws and relevant judicial cases of the United States, Japan and Israel and some European countries.

In addition, Ambassador Gao is the author of The International Criminal Court and co-author of The Interpretation of the Charter of the United Nations, 50 Years of the United Nations and International Law. She has published more than 20 academic papers on United Nations reform, international trade law, international dispute settlement mechanisms, etc. in national and international publications.
