She is in the indicative list of Panelists of Dispute Settlement Body at WTO, arbitrator of the World Bank International Investment Dispute Settlement Center (ICSID), member of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People’s Court of China, distinguished expert of the China National Intellectual Property Administration of China.
She is the visiting professor of Fudan University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, distinguished professor of the Shanghai Higher People’s Court, distinguished consultant expert of Shanghai Municipal Comprehensive Rule of Law, expert of Zhejiang Provincial Trade Remedies Expert Advisory Committee, chief expert of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and Law of the Shanghai Institute of Political Science and Law, distinguished researcher of the Institute of Foreign Affairs and International Law of Hainan University.
From November 2016 to November 2020, she served as a member of the WTO Appellate Body, and from January 1, 2019 to July 1, 2019, and from December 9, 2019 to November 30, 2020, served as the Chair of the Appellate Body, presiding over and participating in the adjudication of nearly 20 international trade disputes. In 2012, she was appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Trade Related Investments of the World Trade Organization.
She has held leadership positions in the Legal Department of the Ministry of Commerce of China, the Office of the International Trade Negotiation Representative, the Anti Monopoly Bureau, the World Trade Organization Department, the Chinese Permanent Mission to the World Trade Organization, and the China Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation for nearly 20 years.
Professor Zhao Hong’s legal practice and research areas include international law, WTO law, international economic law, international trade and investment dispute settlement, international investment law, multilateral trading system, international financial law and international economic order, competition policy and anti-monopoly law, US European trade law, international intellectual property law and technology transfer, philosophical theories of Chinese and Western law, and the history of international law.
Pro. Zhao graduated from Peking University Law School with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degree in Law. Published dozens of legal professional papers and compiled works in both Chinese and English.
