He successfully completed all stages of university career in FENU: Assistant (1972-1974), Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law (1974- 1976), Senior Lecturer (1976-1980), Chairman of the University Trade Union Committee (1976 to 1980), Associate Professor (1980-1982), Secretary of the University ’s Party Committee (1980- 1983), Dean of the Faculty of Law (1982- 1990), Head of the Chair of Labor Law (1983-2012).He has served as the Dean and Director of the Law School and as the Chancellor of the Far Eastern State University in Russia starting from 1995. Since October 2010, he has held the positions of Vice President, Academic Advisor, and Dean of the Law School at Far Eastern Federal University. He has also been awarded the title of Honorary Doctor, became the Director of the Far Eastern International Education Institute, and has served as a member of the Public Council of the Russian Ministry for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic.
Dr. Kurilov is an Honored Official of Higher Education and Honored Official of Higher Professional Education of the Russian Federation. He has been the member of the Commission of the Russian Federation for UNESCO since 1990, and the member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (RANS) since 1993. He has been awarded with the Order of Honor and the Order “For Services to the Fatherland” of the IV degree, the Order “For the Benefit of the Fatherland” named after V.N. Tatishchev, the Order of Saint Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir III degree, has diplomas and medals of the Federal Security Service and the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation and many other state awards of the Russian Federation, as well as orders and awards of the Republic of Korea, China, North Korea, Vietnam: State Award of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea “For merits in the field of education”, State award of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea “For the great contribution to the development of cooperation in the field of culture and education between the Republic of Korea and Russia”, Medal “For Outstanding Contribution to the Development of Sino-Russian Relations” of PRC, the Order of Friendship of the First Degree of the North Korea, the Order of Friendship of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He was awarded the Gold Medal of the French Association for the Promotion of Industry for the successful management strategy of the University in 2006; Honorary award “European Grand Prix for Quality” in 2007 for effective management in the leadership of FENU.
He is an Honorary Doctor of the world-known universities of Japan, USA, Republic of Korea, the PRC. He is an Honorary Citizen of the City of Vladivostok, the City of Taichung (Chinese Taipei), the City of Busan (Republic of Korea). He has written more than 200 research papers .
In 1972, Dr. Kurilov graduated from the Faculty of History and Law of the Far Eastern National University (FENU), majoring in “Jurisprudence”. In 1977, he defended his thesis at the Leningrad State University (now St. Petersburg University). In 1993, he received Doctor in Law degree from the University of Maryland (USA). In 1998, he defended his doctoral dissertation on Labor Law at St. Petersburg University.
