CICC mourns the passing of Emmanuel Gaillard
From: CICC Updated: 2021-04-03We have been deeply saddened to learn that Professor Emmanuel Gaillard, a member of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the Supreme People’s Court (the SPC) and a leading authority in the field of international arbitration, passed away on April 1, 2021 at the age of 69. The China International Commercial Court (the CICC) of the SPC expresses deep sorrow and extends its sincere condolences to Professor Gaillard’s colleagues, friends and family.
Professor Gaillard was appointed by the SPC in 2018 on the first panel of international commercial experts of the SPC. He has played an active role with the CICC, provided professional advice for its development and made important contributions to China’s International Commercial dispute resolution mechanisms.
On December 8, 2020, Professor Gaillard took part in the Second Seminar of the International Commercial Expert Committee of the SPC. His address on “New Technologies in Arbitration” was acclaimed by the participants, and his thought-provoking insights on the development of international arbitration will remain a reference for many.
Professor Gaillard had always been committed to promoting fair, just, efficient and transparent international dispute resolution mechanisms. He wrote numerous publications on international arbitration, acted in landmark international disputes and made considerable achievements in the field of international commercial dispute resolution. His legacy to the academic and practical fields is invaluable.
Professor Gaillard's great contributions to China's international commercial dispute resolution as well as international arbitration will be greatly missed.
