Professor Hi-Taek Shin is the Chairman of KCAB INTERNATIONAL (the International Division of Korean Commercial Arbitration Board in charge of ad ministration of international commercial arbitration cases). He also serves as the Chairman of the Korea Trade Commission.

He retired from Seoul National University School of Law in August 2017 where he had taught international investment law and treaty arbitration as well as resolution of commercial and investment disputes arising from cross-border transactions since 2007. Prior to moving to academia, he was a partner of Kim & Chang, the leading Korean law firm specializing in cross- border investments and the resolution of disputes arising from cross-border investment projects. He regularly sits as an arbitrator both in international investment treaty arbitrations and international commercial arbitrations. He is on the panel of arbitrators of the ICSID, HKIAC, AAA/ICDR, KCAB INTERNATIONAL, SIAC and SCIA.

He authored the Korean chapter in Commentaries on Selected Model Investment Treaties (C.Browned, 2013), and UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules and the Investment Treaty Arbitration Practice (in Korean, 2013).

He received the LL.M. and J.S.D. degrees from Yale Law School and LL.B. and LL.M. degrees from Seoul National University.
