From: CICC Updated: 2024-09-25Fei Zongyi, used to work in the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China as a judge, the Deputy Chief Judge of the Economic Division and a member of both the Judicial Committee and the Advisory Committee. He served as a professor of National Judges College, and an adjunct professor at the Renmin University of China, Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law and China Foreign Affairs University, etc. He also served as the Deputy President and adviser of the Chinese Society of International Law, the Deputy President, Honorary President of China Society of Private International Law, the Vice President of the China Intellectual Property Society, member of the Preparatory Committee for the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the National People’s Congress and the Arbitrator, the Deputy Director, Honorary Deputy Director and Director of the Expert Consultation Committee of China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
While on the Supreme People’s Court, he was in charge of the trial cases involving economic and commercial activities. He pioneered the settlement of cases involving foreign-related economic activities and intellectual property, which laid a sound foundation for the further development of similar trial activities.
Based on his participation in several rounds of Chinese and foreign bilateral judicial assistance negotiations, he edited the Theory and Practice of China’s International Civil Judicial Assistance as the editor-in-chief. Since the 1980s, he has successively participated in the drafting of many important laws, such as the General Principles of the Civil Law, the Contract Law, the Property Law, the Civil Procedure Law, the Arbitration Law, the Law on Choice of Law for Foreign-related Civil Relations and so on.
He has rich experience from being actively engaged in international commercial arbitration for nearly 30 years. He advocates settling disputes through a combination of arbitration and mediation, and constantly explores to optimize the arbitration mechanism. He was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
