SHI Jingxia

Shi Jingxia is Wu Yuzhang Chair Professor (international business & economic law) at the Law School of Renmin University of China (RUC) and the Head of International Law Institute (ILI). Previously she was a professor and the former Dean (04/2014-09/2019) of Law School at China University of International Business & Economics (UIBE) .

Prof. Shi earned her B.A. & LL.B. in 1992, Ph.D. in International Law (1998) from Wuhan University. She also holds a LL.M. degree (2007) and a J.S.D. degree (2011) from Yale Law School. She joined the UIBE Law Faculty in August 1998 and moved to RUC in July 2021. She has been a member of New York Bar since June 2011, a member of Chinese Bar Association since 2001, a member of governing council of International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) in Rome, Italy (2014-2023), an appointed Conciliator at International Center for Settlement of Investment Dispute (ICSID) (2017-2030), a former board member of International Insolvency Institute (III) and its first co-chair for Asia-Pacific Region, and an International Fellow of American College of Bankruptcy (ACB), and a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on International Trade and Investment, etc. She holds the International Arbitration Advanced Certificate of CIArb (London) and remains at the Panel of Arbitrators/Mediators in various foreign and domestic arbitration institutions such as SIAC, HKIAC, KCAB, CIETAC, BAC, SAC, etc. She is the recipient of more than a dozen outstanding academic awards, including “The Seventh National Top Ten Outstanding Young Jurists”. She has presided over a number of key projects of the National Social Science Foundation, and projects of the Ministry of Education, UNESCO, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Ministry of Commerce. (UIBE).

Prof. Shi has been retaining extensive practical and research interests in the areas of international trade and investment law, cross-border insolvency, international commercial dispute settlements, with abundant publications in both English and Chinese. Her scholarly works appear in Yale Journal of International Law, Journal of World Trade, Chinese Social Sciences (CASS), etc. She is also the author of Free Trade and Cultural Diversity in International Law, Cross-Border Insolvency, WTO Law on Trade in Services, WTO Case Studies on Trade in Services, and other monographs or edited volumes both in Chinese and English.
